"My name is Joanna and I'm a 19 years old college student. I am currently pursing a degree in Art/Illustration in Vista, CA. I consider myself a pretty creative gal since I love to write, make art, and music. I would say I have a pretty modern writing style since most of my poems are heavily influenced by people I've met. I also really love to rhyme in my poems (if you couldn't tell). Although I started writing as a form of self expression I had a few people that really admired my work, so I started to make my poems slightly more vague and people were able to relate to them. I've been writing for the past 4 years now, but I'm still a little new to performing. Although the poetry community in San Diego is extremely welcoming."

Nourish me
I can see the sound waves in your voice every time you sing.
Unfortunately that’s the last recollection that would ever be meaningful to me.
I think I’d appreciate you more from a distance
Because if I’m distilled in your crowd,
Then I won’t get hurt by the feedback in your sound.
I think there will always be something written in-between the lines
And maybe you’ll still search for my sign in the stars.
I can’t really remember if you were a Scorpio or a Sagittarius,
But I’m pretty sure it was mentioned that we were too different.
Destined to collide.

BEHIND BRILLANCE
I think I was born a creator
Collecting calluses and picking paint off my hands.
God was unsure about my plans
I think he forgot who I really am.
I’m a bottled up artisan
Jumping through time
Perhaps Da Vinci’s daughter down the line.
I’m blessed to be a woman still ahead of her time.
Since females are still embracing their success, yet their voices are disguised by men who have stolen their access.
As if they invented nobleness
Unfortunate that sexism still exists since women like me are trying to establish sincerity for the world to see.
