Vera Spronto

"I am a poet with the pen name Vera Spronto. I write poetry to feel alive and to allow overflowing emotions to spill out into the words on my paper. Like most, I have been a child, a lover, an ex, and a student. By writing on those experiences, I share my tilted view of existence with all those who choose to read."

the wait

the world has been very kind to me
the sky has been blue and the waves always hit the shore with a “hush, listen.”
my hair grows back, stretching and lengthening
my skin breaks and heals and scars
reminding me that Life comes in cycles, swells
looking into the eyes of Life, I beg
for healing
for clarity
for strength
and Life stares back with a gaze that says
“wait and see.”

sorry

a plague on my lips with every utterance
senseless, inferior syllables
leading others to take one for granted
and once expected at every turn,
respect from them leaves the room
with you, i have no use for it
yet, it spills out of my mouth
drenches my lips
again and again
and hits the ground when again,
you give no notice
and how, when my lips could never keep in the flood
did you manage to halt yours,
keeping it so firmly in your throat
perhaps with pride
perhaps with arrogance
you never said it and you never will

a poet

words and rhymes used to flow from my mouth
like musical genius
i was the maestro of poetry
a monarch among moths
my wings flew me
into the stratosphere of existential thought

the prose that i revealed to the waiting world
diffused from my fingertips and the ends of my hair
unstoppable, immeasurable brilliance
you saw the words
heard my silent pleading for a life yet unlived
and suddenly you became the snuffer that put out my flame
my words became simple, messy
I no longer had any style
My words were bland and my wings broken
In return, I led you to my barely burning embers
And you ran far away
I need only a match to bring me back
I thought that match was you.
