vanessa kaelyn

Vanessa Kaelyn is a 19 year old creative, social justice advocate, and like any other young adult trying to figure it out. From working as an Op-Ed writer for her college newspaper The Horizon to creating a name for herself through contributions to blogs and publications, Vanessa is currently writing her own poetry book which she anticipates to be released late this summer. Intending to double major in Political Science and Business as well a minor in French and English, her long-term goal is to be able to handout her business card instead of her Instagram handle. But for now, it'll do.

i can see the stars
within the palms of my hands
in the light of day.

oh God,
oh God.
i pray to know
what this all means.

does that mean
that my being
is as dark as the night?

now tell me
am i the star
within my own darkness
or
the darkness
that causes the star to fall?

a star
that would rather die
in a burst of light
supernova
 than stay in the darkness
