Brown Womyn
We are the cornerstone of perseverance We are the cornerstone of endurance We are the cornerstone of “thick skin” We are the cornerstone of love
Brown Womyn We just want to adore and be adored We just want to be seen as beautiful in a world that tells us we are too ugly our skin too brown our hair too dark, too thick. We just want to be seen as beautiful in a world that makes us ashamed of being Xicana We just want to be seen as beautiful in a world that has internalized little brown girls into believing eurocentric beauty standards are ideal.
Brown Womyn We want every type of skin to be recognized from the darkest shade of brown to the lightest We don't want to be labeled as “exotic looking” We don't want to be“‘pretty for a brown girl” We don't want to hear any “compliments’’ for being a conventional shade of brown the only kind of brown that seems to be deemed slightly attractive in this society that praises white skin
Brown Womyn We are beautiful it's the world that is ugly for making us believe otherwise
