Daise

In 2015, five ambitious guys that didn’t know one another out of the same high school, crossed paths to a brighter horizon only to unify them into a new musical direction. Previously performing in other Indie bands within the Inland Empire, Eli DeLeon, Edwin Robles, Justin Barner (JB), Nick Chiprez and Adrian Chiprez came together and viewed their communal love for music as their only way of personal escapism from the notoriety their hometown of San Bernardino had always wrongfully received. Finding a deeper connection to one another quicker than imagined, the new friends discovered the truth they were all in need of within the conception known as Daise. Once establishing their distinct collective, Eli, Edwin, JB, Nick and Adrian were reawakened with the ideas that we're being brought into the Daise moniker. As the five guys grew, both musically and personally with one another, Daise’s sonic palette started to take on a different form. Exploring the realms of ominous dream-pop as their backdrop, the band had this monumental shift into ethereal Indie-Rock that felt like home for them, and after all, home is where the music is.
At first glance under the microscope, Daise’s unified resonance draws influences from 80’s jangly-pop heroes, The Smiths, to the darkly sweet contemporary sounds of Indie heavyweights Local Natives, Two Door Cinema Club, and Turnover to just name a few. Outside the spectrum of present and past music, Daise discovers great inspiration from the arts not only within their direct upbringings, but from the likes of Albert Camus’ “The Stranger” to John Green’s “Looking For Alaska” as well as the stories of Raymond Carver. However, while the band pays respect to both their peers and idols, their overall tone travels on a lane completely their very own, without a destination in mind, because only the journey is everlasting, after all.
February 18th, 2019 (Los Angeles, CA) – Inland Empire dream-gaze darlings Daise return with the ethereal beauty of “Glass Mind.” On the gripping new track, the quintet harmoniously blends ruminative lyrics, pensive melodies, and transfixing guitars as if it was their own signature stomping ground.  Drawing from personal aches, pains, and emotional distresses of fractured relationships and future uncertainties, Daise ascends their lyrical artistry. Emotionally stirring yet profoundly uplifting, Daise have perfected the art of balancing light and darkness—both necessary components in evolving mentally and spiritually.

Banned From Japan

"It's us, BANNED FROM JAPAN!  We just released our second album, ‘I Can’t Believe it’s not Meth’.  Our dear friend Johnny joined the band for this album and he helped us step up our game in the harmonies department.  We have been a band for almost 3 years now!  The first album we made is just Joe and Matt (our friend Nick Shore played bass on a couple songs). This new album was more of a collaborative effort (check our Bandcamp for all the song credits!)  Some of the songs are inspired by Matt’s former life as an active meth addict, but we talk about a lot of other stuff too!"

BFJ is:
Matthew Earle - guitars, vocals, sometimes keys
Johnny Velasco - bass, vocals, sometimes keys
Joe Haramut - drums, bass, guitars, keys

Imagine playing with a Ouija board you found in a Glendale pawn shop. Instead of it giving you a curse, it only said nice things and asked about your day. That’s hotbrothers.
"hotbrothers started around 2014 and was Austin and Luis switching off with guitar and drums playing Blues riffs, then Evan joined in on bass soon after. From there, we all had fun writing songs that were twinkly in sound and melancholy in subject manner. When people ask what genre we are, we say citrus-emo they get the gist of it. We just released an album called A Tempersentiment and we’re working on our new EP currently. The fourth and final brother, Dillon, was added a few months ago, making us a four-piece force to reckoned with.
DON'T ASK US IF WERE ACTUALLY BROTHERS because honestly, we don’t know ourselves."

Behind the Minds of Celebrity Crush, a Band Mastering the Art of Reflective Music: Interviewed byAli Gonzales

3/12/2019

This particular band is for the people who are going through heartbreak, the people who put “INFP” in their dating bio, and the people who enjoy the calm of being alone. The harmony of the lyrics with instrumental notes that fit with purpose, it’s easy to appreciate what’s being sang. I often find myself reflecting on my past relationships while listening to the beautiful music of Celebrity Crush. Interviewing them was very exciting, to get behind the meaning and themes behind the songs was such an honor.
This Los Angeles based band comprised of Violet, Jesse, John, Augusta, Celina, and Nicki make up one big musical family who create very interesting music videos that can be described as “dark” with a bit of humor. They are widely connected with the scene, the members understand each other and as we delve more into Celebrity Crush i’m sure you can see parts of each person in the music. It’s space for vulnerability which is not easy to express in music, very thankful for the vulnerability of emotions expressed. People, I feel can be vulnerable while listening to them which is really hard to find in an artist. Thanks so much to Celebrity Crush for the beautiful emotions displayed in the music.

Ali: Undoing has a bit of a somber feeling with lyrics that have what feels like reflecting. What is the meaning behind the song?
Jesse: I wrote that song for Emma Greer who passed away from cancer a while ago. She was a cool supporter of the band, and a really sweet person. She was super self-less, and funny as hell. For the music video we wanted to make a video that was of darker things mixed with some humor, there are a few jokes in there.

Ali: What’s the meaning behind the album art, is it a reflection of how you view society or something else?
Jesse: It’s silly, so it’s a guy praying to a sperm cell on top of a piece of literature, Knocking on Death’s Door. When you’re a guy trying to write about shit you inherently might feel stupid, like you have blind spots in certain areas, which gives me anxiety. Like how are you truly selfless or hear other people out.

Ali: Anaphase makes me reflect on personal relationships, life, human connections. The songs flow together beautifully, is there a theme behind the album?
Jesse: I guess yes there is, it’s like I’m attracted to you, because you think really cool things, but I don’t wanna be creepy towards you. I notice there is a lot of love songs that are like, “you’re the worst, you destroyed me,” or “you’re the best.” But I wanted to write something that was more like, “I like you, and I wanna be with you either way you’re a cool person.”

Ali: What is the process behind making the songs, there’s so many intricate placements of instruments and vocals. How does it all come together?
Jesse: Usually, I write a really simple song and I write for space. We write democratically.
Nicki: He shows me a song, and we just jam for a while, and I’ll improvise until I find something. I get bored easily so I always try to do something different every time.
Jesse: It works well with me, because I usually write repetitive stuff. It’s like Indie Rock, except you know with R & B or rap where there’s a lot more features and collabs, where in Indie Rock I like there’s a lot more “look at me” and singular. Something more Democratic works for us.

"We're a two piece Math/Emo/Punk band from Whittier, CA. We put our new record DIY, on our own label, Farewell, My Little Viking Records .  The drums were recorded by Ben Moore (Drive Like Jehu/Rob Crow/Hot Snakes) at Singing Serpent in San Diego and it was mixed by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven).  We have two other full length records, Labor & Lust, and Self Titled,  which came out on the now-defunct Long Beach label, Mountain Man Records. We sound like the bastard musical lovechild of American Football, Don Caballero, Piglet, Toe and Hot Snakes.  Tambourines, ridiculous drum fills, wicked tapping, hoarse shouting, noise freak outs, Salsa beats and the occasional Prince sample are a staple of any TLV live show.   We've toured the US multiple times and played official SXSW showcases twice.  Bands we've played with: Mock Orange, Owen, Tera Melos, Joyce Manor, Upsilon Acrux, 31knots, Signal Hill, Sleeping People,  FIDLAR, Crime in Choir,  Shannon & the Clams, Beware of Safety, the Mae Shi, and Innerds (ex-Locust).  ENOUGH NAME DROPPING JEEZ."

The Mouth-Breathers

3/11/2019

The Mouth-Breathers are a result of two siblings, Anikka and Dorian Alvarez putting their Classical, Jazz and mostly, their Classic Hard Rock influences to good use. After a few experimental groups in her early teens, Anikka was determined to start a rock band that would be original and fresh. At 15 she started auditioning musicians. Her brother Dorian, only 12 at the time insisted on being a part of it. His natural abilities on the drums proved to be an essential part of the formula that makes this band so special - The chemistry between Anikka and Dorian is undeniable. After a few iterations they finally settled on a lineup with high school friend and Bass player Dasha Cuevas. This power trio has proven itself to be an original and cohesive force to be reckoned with. Anikka's sonorous riffs, Dorian's tasteful yet powerful hammering, and Dasha's melodic and steady bass lines form an original musical experience that keeps them busy in the underground circuit as well as club scene. They hold their own with seasoned musicians and know how to keep the mosh pit moving. Their Classic and newer Rock influences as well as their appreciation of all types of good music, means that they understand melody and vocal harmony and are constantly inspired to write the songs that get you singing in the club and the melodies that stick in your head long after the smoke has dissipated and the doors have closed.

"Sweatpants was formed in late 2016 in Bakersfield, California. By summer 2017, we released our first EP, “Kill Your Dreams”, and began playing local venues and DIY shows around Bakersfield. With some change to the original line-up in late 2017, we began writing songs for our debut album. “I Can See, Can You?” was released in June of 2018 and we signed to OKTOHEART, an independent record label, shortly after. Finally solidifying our line-up, Sweatpants now includes John Haupt on Vocals/Guitar, Dylan Elhindi on Bass, and Zack Martin on Drums. On February 8th, 2019, we released “Mold”, our first single with OKTOHEART and a music video to follow it on February 15th. We now define ourselves as a Hard Rock Band, covering all grounds of the genre and not being tied to a specific sound. We all believe in the power of Rock music and a time when it set people free. That spirit still lives on today and we will spend our lives making sure that never dies."

Emerging from Southern California, Alt-Rock outfit Eleven Point Two is a duo that hit the ground running in 2016 after moving from West Michigan. Since then, they’ve manifested into a versatile and multifaceted group with their own signature sound and stylization.
Comprised of musical brothers, Taylor Siegel (Piano/Vocals) and Jon Siegel (Drums), the dynamic duo has developed their own take on an Alt-Rock sound that is very eclectic. Influenced by a vast array of artists including Twenty One Pilots,  Angels & Airwaves, and Coldplay, their music resonates with a style that touches on equal parts originality and familiarity, giving their audience a taste of something fresh yet still identifiable and relatable.
Since entering the studio, the duo has successfully put out an impressive catalogue of singles as well as their debut EP “Unidentified” which was released in September of 2017 and garnered an impressive amount of positive reception.  This led them to receive the award for the “Best Alternative” category at 2018’s Ventura County Music Awards. Their recent singles “Take Me,” “Midnight Passion,” and “Monster” have also successfully shown that the duo’s sound is evolving and developing into a style that is next-level and innovative; showing a promising direction for Eleven Point Two both musically and collectively.

The Oil Barons

3/10/2019

The Oil Barons were formed in early 2016 in Los Angeles, CA. Andrew blew out a West a few years before, leaving Lou back in dirty NYC and their previous Rock and Roll venture defunct.  Well, Lou didn't take too kindly to that, so he hitched a wagon across the country and burned Andrew's house to the ground with a single guitar chord.  Jake was an old pro, attracted to the madness of these two reprobates, and when they found out he could play a kit, he was forced into band at gunpoint.
They became a riff-crazed Heavy Rock power trio.  Drawing from a deep well of influences ranging from Psychedelic to Garage Rock to Doom Metal, the trio staked their claim across LA, becoming regulars at The Viper Room, The Satellite, Harvard & Stone, and any dive, saloon, or watering hole that could withstand their massive volume.
In 2018 the boys successfully conned their friends, family, and fans out of a cool $11,000.  Without even realizing it, these clueless dolts had funded a debut LP that was going to be lousy with guitar solos, time shifts, Old West theatrics, Hammond organ, and all manner of ungodly sound that's long gone out of fashion.  SUCKERS.  The album, entitled The West is Won, is set for release in March 2019.

Ivy + The Rorschachs

3/10/2019

There have been many incarnations of Ivy + The Rorschachs over the years, but one thing remains true....they are stronger than ever. Playing shows as a band since 2010 under various names, Los Angeles/Pomona band Ivy + The Rorschachs have displayed a unique take on Rock n’ Roll.
Forming during their college years, Ivy + The Rorschachs settled on the lineup that included Rachel Sanchez on vocals, Ruben Nevarez on guitar, Vincent Sanchez on Bass and Steven Cruz on Drums. With influences that range from The Pixies, David Bowie, Joy Division, The Cramps, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and The Smith’s etc, they have created a unique sound that blends multiple genres. It’s hard to characterize them into a certain style. To put it simply, they’re a Rock N’ Roll band.
Ivy + the Rorschachs create songs that make you strut, feel something, all while reflecting on the person in the mirror. This is best exemplified on their new EP “Pick Your Poison” that was released in January of 2019. Recorded in the fall of 2018, this 6 song EP is just a taste of what’s to come.
With more music, live performances and music videos on the way, Ivy + The Rorschachs are on a mission to spread the sound of Rock N’ Roll to a new generation. Reminding people that the primal sounds of Rock N’ Roll are still alive....and more primitive than ever.

Brujas

"We're a Hard Rock Blues influenced band from Anaheim CA. A 5 piece comprised of Aracely Fernandez on Vocals, Edgar Flores on Lead, Alan Criss on Rhythm, Tristan Jacobo on Bass, and Luis Delgado on Drums.
A lot of time and effort went into finding the sound and music we wanted to perform, as well as taking the influences of the area we live in and the music we grew up on and dreamed of performing ourselves. A recurring theme with our music and lyrics is involving some relation to dark themes or closely related to witchcraft themes. The reason being is also relevant to the name of the band "Brujas" meaning Witches in Spanish. The meaning behind the name is that the term for a witch has been used for many different situations, most common used in negative context, such as the Salem Witch Trials and burnings, folklore and even fairytales with poison involved. We enjoy the idea of an outcast,  an individual who relatively may have a better understanding than others and be castrated for it. That is how we see a Bruja.
Off of our First EP we have put together a variety of influences as a means of figuring not only ourselves but what we feel truly represents the music we want to play, and can rightfully interpret the meanings behind our songs. The variation from the heavy lead sound from "Into the Rabbit Hole" and "Ash & Fire", To a more Ska and Dance track "Night With The Witches" or the Hard Blues track "Never Felt Alive" to our first song ever written together that encompasses almost all of that "Blacklight" Each of these songs have their relevance to. Each of us have witnessed the music scene and surrounding area grow and supported the likes of many individuals and their art. We simply wish to make our own staple in the area and follow the dream we each hope to achieve."
