Summer Cannibals, Field Mouse, Lost Dog @ ONCE Ballroom by Alexandra Santos

As August is coming to a close Autumn is rapidly descending on us east coasters quicker than we'd like. Meaning the weather gets colder, the nights are longer. What's a better way to close off the summer by putting ourselves in a good mood and getting ready for sweater weather than a concert! Portland rock band, Summer Cannibals, hit the stage at ONCE Ballroom in Somerville and took the stress of another cycle of chilly weather, first semesters, and the big moving season away only if just for a night. Commonly at ONCE ballroom, a local band performs before the touring acts and they have never disappointed. I wasn't surprised when seeing the explosive energy emanating from Somerville Indie Rock band, Lost Dog, who played songs off their latest EP, Don't Feel That, they were infectious from the lead singer to the jumping guitar player. Next band to set the stage was Field Mouse. A band native to Philly who wooed us with their third album, Meaning, that happened to come out the night of the show. They filled me with joy with their bashing drum cymbals and heavy guitar licks.  The melodic Dream-Pop band had me floating throughout their entire set. Fun fact, there was a little girl at the show and it was her first concert. That made me so happy that Summer Cannibals reaches all ages and inspires so many. The little girl had cassettes in hand and was accompanied but her father who gladly answered all her eager questions. It was a lovely sight to see her speak to lead singer, Jessica Boudreaux, while tuning her guitar asking about the setlist. At last Summer Cannibals performed. I have never seen them live before - I have only seen them in photographs on Instagram. Let me tell you that it is an experience everyone should have. They played my personal favorite, Can't Tell Me No, and Boudreaux gave a big F.U by hand to any naysayers while shredding, it would not be a Summer Cannibals show if Lead Singer and Guitarist, Cassi Blum, didn't do the tango of thrashing on guitar. Together it's otherworldly to see in person at the foot of the stage. The reason they touch many people across various ages is because of their genuine love for music and self-expression. If you haven't seen the power of Summer Cannibals live then don't miss a beat and give them a listen. Check em out next time they roll through town." - Alexandra Santos

"I’m a 19-year-old Dominican Armenian-American music photographer from Dorchester, Massachusetts. I shoot local bands
and independent bands who are come to the city. I also shoot for a few publications,
BostonHassle.com and whatthekidswant.com
I started music photography in December 2018. I still have much to learn, even though I love the stuff I am making. I
can see where I can improve and I’m willing to evolve and change as I get older. Photography, especially music
photography, is a great escape for me and all the negative aspects of my life. It helps me be creative in the worst times.
It helps me feel electrified when I may feel hopeless. That’s what I love about music photography, wanting to go the
shows of some of my favorite musicians but also capturing a moment that will live on forever is pretty exhilarating experience."
