The Riot Grrrl Carnival is an annual musical event that raises funds for community non-profit organizations such as the Downtown Women's Center of Los Angeles and Chicas Rocker as of Southeast Los Angeles (CRSELA). The Riot Grrrl Carnival aims to recognize and celebrate artivists, womyn, queer, and non-binary gendered musicians that contest sexism, racism, homophobia, and social inequalities. The first show was in 2008and has continued with the support of volunteer-run and DIY all ages music venueTheSmellhttp://www.thesmell.org/home/,as well as that of artists and musicians who have participated. This years RGC was a benefit show for CRSELA, a non-profit collective that organizes an annual weeklong summer rock camp for girls in Southeast LosAngeles.CRSELA is a collective of women artists, musicians, educators, and community members from South East L.A. that create the space, community, and support they needed when they were younger. They help motivate and empower young girls and women via a DIY attitude and the camp motto “TacoCore”, which suggests that anything is do-able and/or “Sí se puede!"
Featured musical performances at this year’s RGC included Apostasis, GraveyardJunkies, Las Sangronas y EL Cabron, Frisco Dykes, and DeeJay diA of Radio Realness.
Apostasis, a feminist hardcore punk band that “[likes ]it heavy like [their] flows”, is made up of comadres, core organizers of CRSELA. They reunited for their last official show, although many of us are crossing our fingers. Graveyard Junkies brought a QueerRiot/Slut Core noise and attitude meant to “indulge your anger and stomp on all nazis, transphobes, sexist fuckers, racist dumbasses, and all discriminatory bitches.” Las Sangronas y El Cabron, who also organize the Riot Grrrl Carnival and includes yours truly, like to sangroniar reminding you that we are all sangronas y cabrones and here to fuck shit up. Frisco Dykes joined us from the IE, driving a “Sassy dancepunk” sound that urges you to move and calls for “Chingonas to unite.” Deejay diA of Radio Realness, on KSPC 88.7, opened the show spinning punk and riot grrrl tunes highlighting local bands such as ATRAKO, AUXILIÖ, and CAUSA. There was also tabling by CRSELA and East Los Angeles Women’s Center and local vendors. The Riot Grrrl Carnival aims to create a sense of community amongst participants and/or attendees cultivating a punk scene of its own. - via SusyRiot

A fan of punk rock rock and DIY music. I also like shooting drag queens, kings, and other artists. I only like shooting mostly small DIY and punk venues in LA and surrounding So Cal. I go out a lot, 4 nights a week. I am always looking for new bands to see, new places to hang out and to meet artists. I also work as a wardrobe stylist in the music business - styling bands and working on music videos.
