Dirty Penni Fest was a long awaited event thrown by Dirty Laundry TV & Penniback Records. It's annual show took place at the Echo & Echoplex. It was an amazingly memorable kick-start to the Summer, bringing the local Los Angeles music scene together. The night was full of love, support, and a lot of stage diving.

Riot Grrrl Carnival 2019

7/22/2019

The Riot Grrrl Carnival is an annual musical event that raises funds for community non-profit organizations such as the Downtown Women's Center of Los Angeles and Chicas Rocker as of Southeast Los Angeles (CRSELA). The Riot Grrrl Carnival aims to recognize and celebrate artivists, womyn, queer, and non-binary gendered musicians that contest sexism, racism, homophobia, and social inequalities. The first show was in 2008and has continued with the support of volunteer-run and DIY all ages music venueTheSmellhttp://www.thesmell.org/home/,as well as that of artists and musicians who have participated. This years RGC was a benefit show for CRSELA, a non-profit collective that organizes an annual weeklong summer rock camp for girls in Southeast LosAngeles.CRSELA is a collective of women artists, musicians, educators, and community members from South East L.A. that create the space, community, and support they needed when they were younger. They help motivate and empower young girls and women via a DIY attitude and the camp motto “TacoCore”, which suggests that anything is do-able and/or “Sí se puede!"
Featured musical performances at this year’s RGC included Apostasis, GraveyardJunkies, Las Sangronas y EL Cabron, Frisco Dykes, and DeeJay diA of Radio Realness.
Apostasis, a feminist hardcore punk band that “[likes ]it heavy like [their] flows”, is made up of comadres, core organizers of CRSELA. They reunited for their last official show, although many of us are crossing our fingers. Graveyard Junkies brought a QueerRiot/Slut Core noise and attitude meant to “indulge your anger and stomp on all nazis, transphobes, sexist fuckers, racist dumbasses, and all discriminatory bitches.” Las Sangronas y El Cabron, who also organize the Riot Grrrl Carnival and includes yours truly, like to sangroniar reminding you that we are all sangronas y cabrones and here to fuck shit up. Frisco Dykes joined us from the IE, driving a “Sassy dancepunk” sound that urges you to move and calls for “Chingonas to unite.” Deejay diA of Radio Realness, on KSPC 88.7, opened the show spinning punk and riot grrrl tunes highlighting local bands such as ATRAKO, AUXILIÖ, and CAUSA. There was also tabling by CRSELA and East Los Angeles Women’s Center and local vendors. The Riot Grrrl Carnival aims to create a sense of community amongst participants and/or attendees cultivating a punk scene of its own. - via SusyRiot

A fan of punk rock rock and DIY music. I also like shooting drag queens, kings, and other artists. I only like shooting mostly small DIY and punk venues in LA and surrounding So Cal. I go out a lot, 4 nights a week. I am always looking for new bands to see, new places to hang out and to meet artists. I also work as a wardrobe stylist in the music business - styling bands and working on music videos.

Jazz:Re:Found Festival: Shot by Chiara Beretta

"Mosquitoes, lots of mosquitoes. The burning heat of the sun on stage making the artists and me sweat. I try to capture some expression that does not seem exhausted. These are the only negative aspects that come to mind when I think about what this year's JazzReFound Festival has been. I discovered JRF very late, as the fesitval has existed for 11 years. It was born as a project for the diffusion of avant-garde musicians and embodies the recent processes of integration between various musical genres. Such as; Jazz, electronic, acoustic, laptop music, rock, electro pop, rhythms or grooves with black and psychedelic facets (influences). Inspired by festivals such as Sonar (Spain), Jazz Montreux (France), Big Chill (England), or North Sea Jazz (Holland). The Italian festival enriches the wide range of music with initiatives that highlight the territory and its culture. In short, an event not to be missed if you are in Northern Italy in June. As soon as I discovered this year's line-up, I sent a hopeful email to the communication team asking if I could be accredited as a photographer. It was hard to infiltrate the production without knowing anyone, but so much so. I did it, brazenly. I'm reluctant to make requests, to invade spaces and this, inevitably, penalizes me. This time, however, it was different, I was able to walk on stage, talk to artists, shoot freely from close up, without ladders, without limitations of time and space. I was able to cut loose with my Nikon D700. A lot of desire to take home some wicked shots. Needless to say, it felt great! I think the big concerts, in those giant stadiums, with more than 300,000 screaming fans bring on such a wave of adrenalin – the sheer size of it all. They’re moments to be remembered forever, sure. Then there are those intimate concerts - acoustic or not, surrounded by nature. It's sounds, immersed in the twilight that makes a small village, a UNESCO world heritage site, shimmer. It these concerts, these experiences, that enrich your soul. The JRF does just this. There’s a woeful melancholy when it ends, but at the same time you’re beaming and ecstatic because you know that next Summer, you’ll get to do it all over, and it will be even better. To the question "what was your favorite show?" I already know what to say: Chassol, French composer and musician, inventor of the 'Ultrascore', that kind of music you have to dig for. Listen, see up close, photograph. Three reasons that allowed me to live a unique experience in its intensity. If like me you have two passions, music and photography, this can be the most beautiful work in the world - Chiara

Chiara Beretta was born in 1994 in the norther periphery of Milan where she grew up and still lives today. She was exposed to photography at a young age, thanks to her mother who is also a photographer. Through social engagement she was drawn into the world of photography and photojournalism. She has perused and completed a degree in Restauration of Cultural Heritage at the Academy of Fine Arts at Como.
She has collaborated with the anthropologist Andrea Staid and Agenzia X, which has published some of her early work related to the city of Milan's immigration and labor. Recently, she has cultivated a more intimate relationship with photography and her muse is a videomaker.
Her principle model and companion with whom she has also collaborated with on several video projects. Despite being completely self-taught, she has forged a path for herself in the world of photography by working as an assistant in a still-life photography studio. She occasionally dabbles in live performance photography. Currently she is working on a personal project inspired by her family in Sardinia which will be released in 2020.

Her images are carefully studied and impactful, they melt the space between melancholia and introspection, sexuality and delicacy.
