kill for kicks

Front man Zeus Calacuayo picked up the guitar and started writing songs as a young pre-teen. He grew up influenced by the many legendary rock n roll bands including Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath. Stricken with inspiration from all his idols, he wanted to recreate an ultimate rock band an therefore in his 20s started Kill for Kicks in April of 2012. Zeus needed a band name quick for a first show booked so the name 'Kill for Kicks' came to mind.  Inspired by the big hit song at the time "Pumped up Kicks" by Foster the People. Also because Zeus had really worn out ripped shoes and was in dire need of a new pair. The first few years of Kill for Kicks went through many struggles of finding the right committed members and constantly changing members. K4K also struggled not being accepted in the different little scenes and performing at many empty shows. But Kill for Kicks continued to persist. Releasing there 2 song EP Everybody's Crazy in 2014. I'm happy became a signature song for the band and a fan favorite. Upbeat simple song with depth and sadness in the lyrics. In December 2016 the band released the 6 song EP Rock is Dead? A danceable catchy hard rock album with fun sexy lyrics and 90's party rock vibes. The band really found there ground when drummer from Miami, Florida, Zu joined the band. Coincidentally Zu had seen kill for kicks in the early days at a battle of the bands and fell in love with K4K's epic performance. Ironically though Zu's prior band had one that battle. but a couple years later his band broke up and Zu went on to audition for Kill for Kicks, and the rest is history. Zu's powerful drumming styles influenced by Queens of the Stone Age and Dave Grohl really completes the band's Rock n roll vision and sound. They continue to play every weekend throughout the shattered music scene of LA at backyard shows, bars, house parties. They strive to continue growing their fan base with a new direction, dedication and professional thinking in hopes to dominate and create a new coming together scene for LA.
