Babe & Dusters’ debut EP, “Get You By the Toes!” is the product of a group of 4 close friends Natsuko, Nene, Amisa and Akane living in Tokyo, Japan. Their EP’s main focus is to convey the wide scope of emotions risen from love and relationships: from soulful and bittersweet “Too Young,” to infuriated “Honey Mesquite” with a Punk edge. Having lived in a deeply misogynistic city like Tokyo, lead vocalist Amisa hopes to uplift girls who have been made to feel inferior in love, and to encourage them to strive for their authentic, careless selves.
The band’s unapologetic attitude is exuded in their album cover-inspired by Sukeban films in the 80's. Babe & Dusters’ wore classic Japanese high school uniforms not only to commemorate their last year in high school/ living in Tokyo, but to pay homage to the Sukeban culture that iconically subverted gender norms. Their beaten up, bloody look is a tip of the hat to the way girl gangs altered their uniform as a symbol of rebellion.
