Dear Little black girl by Alexi Simpson

With your curls, tangles and coils
With your melanin skin, your cheek bones and your smile
The little girl who should stand proudly on American soil
And the girl with her unique style
The girl who can move mountains with her voice
And the girl with absolute power
The one who was taught to carry herself with poise
Yet still as delicate as a flower
Don’t let this world fool you
It can be cruel, disgusting and mean
But we should all realize
That God created us to be queens
We are the color
The blueprint
The trendsetter
And the girl with exceptional strength
When you look in the mirror tonight
you’ll see nothing but beauty
And realize your worth
Because we were made to be magnificent
And it started with our birth

"I love to write in my free time and enjoy writing poems, haiku’s, free verse poetry and short stories. My writing usually consists of love, family, personal life experiences, or real world issues that currently take place. I hope that my writing can bring awareness to certain world issues and help creat a safe place for those who may share the same experiences as me. Aside from writing, I also enjoy photography, exploring nature and love to work with children."
